Our Story
I started a job as an office administrator earning £19K per annum and moved into a local authority role as a benefit assistant, I was determined not to take any job that would not give me a career break and progression to a higher level like becoming a consultant. Therefore, I refused to apply for any care job or customer service job. I told myself that, I wanted a better life so I was going to crack the system and ensure I enjoyed the reward of doing a good job that I always wanted. I did what most people would do as I thought I needed a degree to land the big roles I wanted; I went on to top up my existing degree with a year master’s degree in the field I desired to work in which is housing. Guess what?
After spending a good amount of money paying international student fees to complete the course, I was offered my first housing job as an assistant lettings officer role, which I thought yes, I am now moving on to become a higher earner. Just like most people I have arrived at the £26K level and felt comfortable working away for another 10 years. My salary was creeping up at a meagre level. This is where most people like me get stuck and give up thinking we have done enough and waiting for that manager opening so we can move up.
